New Policy
NewPolicy.org supports a strong American stance to end the Arab-Israeli conflict. While bringing peace to the Palestinians and the Israelis is a worthy mission in of itself, its dividends to American interests are innumerable.
Terrorism: It has often been argued that the constant state of warfare between Israel and its Arab neighbors has led to a radicalization of the region. The United States has pledged to work with other nations to fight the root causes of terror. Ending the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is an important step in stemming the tide of terrorism.
Iran: The West and some Arab nations have been increasingly concerned by Iran’s influence in Lebanon and in the Palestinian territories. The influence of Iran is a direct result of a stalemated peace process. Israeli withdrawal from the occupied territories, resulting in peace with the Palestinians, Lebanese and Syrians, will induce the further evolution of Hamas and Hizbullah into nonviolent political organizations.
America at War: It is now widely agreed that the war in Iraq was a blunder of tragic proportions that has cost the United States more than a trillion dollars, the lives of thousands of American soldiers and hundreds of thousands of Iraqis, has depressed our moral standing and left NATO troops vulnerable in Afghanistan. A threatened Israel has often pressured the United States to interfere militarily in the Middle East as in the case of Iraq, and now in the case of Iran. A peace settlement between Israel and Arab nations would decrease the likelihood of American involvement in future wars in the Middle East to protect Israel.
